Title: The economic importance of boating recreation in Oregon Description: This study was done for the Oregon State Marine Board and completed during the 6 month period of June through December of 1986. The purpose of this project is to provide information through reliable secondary data that will show the importance of boating recreation to the Oregon economy. The study also exposes a need for more research on this subject. This study defines and evaluates economic activities for the marine recreation industry in Oregon and also evaluates the economic values of recreational boating on rivers, Oregon registered boating use and the charterboat industry. Economic values are determined through total income generated from travel costs of the recreational activity and owner/operator expenses of registered boaters. An input/output model developed by the U.S Forest Service is used to calculate total income from travel cost and owner/operator cost data. Secondary data are the main source of information in this study. Primary information is used through a survey done to evaluate travel costs and owner/operator expenses of Oregon's registered boaters.
