La intervención realizada a principios de 1990 mostraba que nos hallábamos ante un espacio situado extramuros de ciudad islámica, con una secuencia estratigráfica que permitía ver como había sido progresivamente ganado al río entre los siglos XV a XVIII, cuando queda definitivamente incorporado a la ciudad como plaza pública. La intervención también permitió documentar unos refugios antiaéreos de la pasada Guerra Civil y restos de antiguas obras de encauzamiento y defensa del Segura. [EN] Because of the construction of an underground parking at the Plaza Glorieta, in Murcia, we made two archaeological drillings in order to evaluate the incidence of the works upon the buried remains. The intervention, made at the beginning of 1990, showed that this space was located outside the islamic city wall. The stratigraphical sequence allowed us to apreciate how the area was gained from the riverside, between the XV and the XVIII centuries, when it was finally incorporated to the city as a public square. We also could document some air-raid shelters from the last Civil War (1936-39) and the remains of several Segura’s embanking and defense old works. Peer reviewed |
