Conferencia plenaria del XIX Congreso Internacional de Acústica = Plenary Lecture of the 19th International Congress on Acoustics (ICA2007), Madrid, 2-7 Sep 2007.-
dc.description[EN] Acoustics is one of the oldest branches of the physics and because of that many physicists think that there is no more acoustic science to develop and that the acousticians are presently playing only a technical role. This is a view that, if admissible for certain sectors of acoustics as for other sectors of physics, is completely erroneous referring to a so wide-ranging discipline. In fact, acoustics as the science of elastic waves should be considered as a parallel field to that of the electromagnetic waves and both are very open and active scientific and technological areas.-
It would be a very pretentious and risky task to foresee the future of the acoustics for the 21st Century, as the title of this lecture suggests. Such title has been taken from the ambitious motto of the ICA2007MADRID, but this lecture will only try to offer a contribution to the perspectives of the acoustics for the following years bearing in mind the main emergent topics which presently focus the attention of the acousticians.-
